The Aquadragon Swim Team has been operating as a parent run organization from the Jakarta International School (JIS) facilities for over 20 years. The program is open to Jakarta International School students and other children from 4 to 19 years of age.
A long standing goal of Aquadragons is to promote excellence in competitive swimming. Aquadragons are proud of the organization and professionalism with which it operates. Swimming Information & Officiating Clinics are sometimes held to help parents understand the sport and be able to participate in the swim meets themselves. Swim meets require many hands to have the level of competition that our swimmers deserve. As a parent run organization, there is an expectation that parents help with the running of the club, especially during meets.
Competitive swimming has long been considered to provide important life skills, including self confidence, self discipline, goal setting, perseverance, sportsmanship and team work, time management and concentration.
Aquadragons is not a learn to swim program. Swimming instruction is provided in a competitive yet fun atmosphere. The minimum requirement for the entry level Cicak group is that the swimmer be able to swim 25 meters on both the front and the back. This Season we are also running a pilot project called Junior Aquadragons where the minimum requirement is that the swimmer can swim 20 meters using any method. All new swimmers are required to try out in front of one of our Coaches. The Coach is responsible for deciding the swimmers practice group.
Aquadragons runs with the JIS school year, with two sessions: Session I runs from August into January, then Session II takes over and runs to the end of May. A complete calendar of events, with home and away swim meets, provides the right mix of competition that is needed to show off the results of the hard work of training.
To accommodate the varied abilities and commitment of swimmers, Aquadragons practices are divided into 6 groups. Summary information for the groups is as follows:
